Abstract

Nd3+/Yb3+/Tm3+ co-doped NaY(WO4)2 nanocrystals were prepared by a hydrothermal method. The crystal structure, morphology and up-conversion luminescent properties of samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and luminescence spectroscopy, respectively. The results indicate that all the synthesized samples are a pure tetragonal phase of NaY(WO4)2, and the particle sizes are 50-55 nm. The up-conversion nanoparticles have a small size,well-dispersive property and water solubility by adding polyethylene glycol (i.e., PEG-2000) as a surfactant. For NaY(WO4)2:Nd3+/Yb3+/Tm3+, a blue emission peak at 469 nm and a green emission peak at 539 nm appear under 808-nm excitation. The blue emitting light results from the energy level transition of 1G4→3H6 of Tm3+, green emitting light is from the transition of 1D2→3H5 of Tm3+. In addition, the energy transfer process and the up-conversion luminescence mechanism of Nd3+→Yb3+→Tm3+ in co-doped system were also investigated.
