Effect of Wenshen Tongluo Zhitong Decoction on Bone Mineral Density and Serum Biochemical Indices in Ovariectomized Rats

Abstract
Objective:To observe the effect of Wenshen Tongluo Zhitong decoction(WTZD)on bone metabolism in ovariectomized rats and to explore its mechanism of treating postmenopausal osteoporosis(PMOP). Methods:There were 72 3-month-old female SD rats,in which 60 rats were given bilateral ovariectomy,and were ran-domly divided into the ovariectomy group,estradiol valerate group,WTZD of high dose group,WTZD of medi-um dose group,and WTZD of low dose group,and the left 12 rats were the sham operation group. Bone mineral density(BMD)and biochemical indices for bone metabolism were measured to evaluate the efficacy of WTZD on PMOP. Results:In the PMOP female SD rats,WTZD can prevent the decrease of BMD, down-regulate IL-6 and receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand(RANKL),up-regulate osteoprote-gerin(OPG),thus lowering RANKL/OPG ratio. WTZD had the effect of anti-PMOP. Conclusion:The main mechanism of WTZD PMOP is down-regulating IL-6,reducing RANKL/OPG ratio,which could inhibite osteo-clast activity to improve BMD.关键词
