Abstract

In deepwater gas well testing,due to long seawater segment and low temperature,natural gas is easy to form hydrate between mud line and sea level,blocking the wellbore and resulting in failure of the testing. A wellbore temperature-pressure model is established to simulate a deepwater exploration well in the western South China Sea,and the temperature and pressure distributions of the wellbore fluid are obtained by solving it. The hydrate formation experiments of the gas samples from this area were carried out and the critical conditions for gas hydrate formation were obtained. According to the simulation results,it is held that the temperature is the main factor affecting the hydrate formation and the hydrate will be generated near the mud line of the well in the routine testing. Insulated tubing can reduce the overall heat transfer coefficient of the wellbore and raise the gas temperature about 30 ℃,and the testing at different yield shows that hydrate will not be produced. Thus the insulated tubing can ensure smooth testing,and the field testing also confirmed this prediction. Compared the measured data of wellhead temperature and pressure at any yield level with their simulation results,the error is less than 5%,which proves the accuracy of the model and shows that the method can provide the basis for predicting and preventing the formation of hydrate in deepwater gas wells.
