Abstract

Conventional In-Plane-Switching (IPS ) mode blue phase liquid crystal (BPLC ) display device demonstrates lower contrast ratio than expectation .This manuscript analyzes the physical mechanism behind it and proposes revised rhombus IPS electrode to solve the problem .Experiment result confirms that IPS electrode structure with rotated direction reduces light leakage by two thirds, rising the contrast ratio of the display device to > 10000 : 1 accordingly .Based on this discovery ,the rhombus IPS electrode design is proposed to pursue high contrast image in BPLC display system de -sign .Besides ,Techwiz simulation proves that "L" shape rhombus IPS BPLC device has similar volt-age-transmission characteristics ,3/4 lower Gamma shift and 2/3 lower grey scale inversion than con-ventional IPS BPLC .This enables rhombus IPS BPLC display as a more competitive candidate for next generation display technology .
