Abstract

Ultra high voltage direct current (UHVDC) converter valve may experience large horizontal displacement and vertical acceleration responses under earthquake,leading to damage of the valve itself and the whole loop in the hall.In this paper,it was proposed to control the seismic responses of the valve by connecting the valve to the ground by insulators and spring-damper joints.Based on a ±800kV UHVDC converter station,a hall-valve theoretical analysis model and a finite element model were established to do the research.The vibration control effect of various parameters were evaluated by time history analysis and the suggest parameters were proposed.The results show that the proposed vibration control scheme with large horizontal projection length,proper damping,large tension and small stiffness,can effectively reduce 60% of the horizontal displacement response of the valve.At the same time,the peak tension of insulator is no larger than 1.8 times the value in static.For converter station in high seismic intensity region,this vibration control scheme is recommended.
