Abstract

In order to study the effect of mixing intensification on Ce3+ oxidative regeneration, effects of reactor type, size, and operation conditions on material flow and conversion in SK and SMV static mixers were investigated based on CFD analysis of flow field and concentration field. Meanwhile, the results from SK/SMV static mixers were compared with that from a traditional bubble column. The results show that SK and SMV static mixers provide significant improvement in macroscopic reaction rate of Ce3+ oxidation than that in bubble column reactor, which is caused by the reduction of Hatta number (used to describe gas-liquid mass transfer resistance). Therefore, the Ce3+ oxidation process co-controlled by gas-liquid mass transfer and reaction is transferred to reaction controlled. Simulation results indicate that Ce3+ conversion in both static mixers rapidly reaches 100% under optimal conditions when the reaction temperature is 340 K.
