Abstract

Based on the field investigation data,near-shore hydrodynamic condition and basic principles of cohesive sediment,the muddy and consolidating problems were tried to be resolved in this paper.Several conclusions were presented.(1) The character of sediment at near-shore and near high-tide-level coast is light yellow fine sand.Submarine slope of coast is covered by sand while the sea-ward becomes muddy deposition.There is a great number of decayed mud in sand front around Silver Beach.(2)The sewage from several main waste exits can enter into the areas.The high value of suspended particles appears near estuary and sewage exits.(3) Direct source of sediment transport and indirect source from sewage were analyzed to propose the source of clay.Anthropogenic processes cause plenty of sewage discharge into the coastal areas,which carries amount of decayed mud into the areas.(4)The cohesive sediment deposits near the sewage exit,then decayed mud gradually experiences a long process of accumulation and consolidation under certain oceanic dynamic conditions,which causes sand beach become muddy and consolidating.(5)Several proper suggestions are proposed in order to develop the regulation and improvement.
