川藏线雅安至新都桥段凉闸站设置研究
Study on the Setting of Brake Cool-Down Stations at Ya'an - Xinduqiao Section of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway

Abstract
Continuous braking control at large-sloped railways can lead to overheated brake blocks and sometimes it is necessary to have dedicated stations to allow the brake blocks to cool down. The study discusses the necessity of having such cool-down stations along the Ya'an-Xinduqiao section of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway. In particular, we analyze the braking situation for 30‰ gradient with speed limit of 65 km/h or 75 km/h and determine the maximum length of brake cool-down stations. It is found that there is no need to build new cool-down stations along the Ya'an-Xinduqiao section. Nevertheless, we show that it is necessary to conduct the cool-down operation at the existing stations, especially at higher speed limit. A 0-1 integer programming model is further built to optimize the number of cool-down stations while satisfying some operational constraints. The solutions indicate that the setting of brake cool-down stations do not affect the carrying capacity. The findings of the paper shed some light on the design of the Sichuan-Tibet railway.关键词
