Abstract

Based on the two equally well-practiced green certification systems, LEED and GBES, in China, this study investigated the incremental cost for realizing each LEED and GBES evaluation item and for different LEED and GBES certification levels, and the incremental costs for different LEED and GBES certification levels. Results indicated that most of the evaluation items of LEED ( 2. 2 version) and GBES (2006 version) needed to be realized with relativity high and high incremental cost technologies in China; the incremental cost of green certification projects were relativity high;GBES-certified projects leaded to higher prerequisite incremental cost than LEED-certified projects. Three suggestions for reducing the incremental cost were proposed, the first one was that the low incremental cost technologies should be developed;the second one was that evaluation items that can be realized with low incremental cost technologies should be chosen with priority; and the third one was that the rating method of Green Building Evaluation Systemshould be improved.
