Abstract

With its simple structure, the VIENNA rectifier realizes the operation of the unit power factor and low harmonic. However, its neutral-point voltage unbalance and oscillation not only reduce the capacitor life resulting in a poor operational reliability, but also could degrade the power quality so seriously that could lead to system crash. Consequently, a novel method to suppress the neutral-point (NP) voltage oscillation and control NP potential unbalance was proposed in this paper. First, carrier-based PWM (CB-PWM) for VIENNA rectifiers was simplified based on the equivalence of SVM. Secondly, the effect of voltage vectors on the NP voltage was analyzed. After calculating the compensation factor of NP voltages, the injection of zero-sequence component is modified to minimize the low-frequency NP Voltage oscillation. The method proposed in this paper can suppress the NP voltage oscillation and control NP voltage unbalance with low current harmonic distortion. The feasibility and effectiveness of NP voltage oscillation suppression considering NP voltage balance control were verified in simulations and experiments.
