Investigation on the pearl roundel patterns of religious implication on the fabric collected in Japan during Tang dynasty
摘要
Abstract
A lot of relics left after the fabrics with pearl roundel patterns were exported to Japan arouse little public interest. These special religious fabrics with pearl roundel pattern are of great significance to the study on the silk trade and religious exchanges between Europe and Asia. This paper compared the existing fabrics with pearl roundel pattern in Japan with the fabrics with pearl roundel pattern unearthed in the Central Plains and Central Asia, and carried out classification analysis in the context of silk trade exchanges and religious communication between Europe and Asia by the methods of literature and history,archaeology and iconology. The conclusions will fill in the gaps in the study on fabrics with religious pearl roundel pattern in China. The study showed that the silk customization trade in the Sui and Tang dynasties were very specialized and segmented and began to be subdivided according to different religions. The creators of these fabrics were likely to be Sogdians believing in Zoroastrianism in Centra Asia or Sogdians living in the Central Plains.关键词
