Abstract

For rational use of chemical insecticides and bio-pesticides Bt in the control of Plutella xylostella,the relationship between the resistance of P.xylostella to chemical insecticides and susceptibility to Bt Cry1Ac protein was investigated.The susceptibilities of two P.xylostella populations with different resistance backgrounds to 9 commonly used insecticides and Cry1Ac protein were determined using leaf-dipping method and the cross-resistance of the two P.xylostella populations to chemical insecticides and Cry1Ac protein was clarified.The results showed that the GDBL population,collected from fields in Boluo County,Guangdong province,exhibited different resistance levels to the nine commonly used insecticides,except to Cry1Ac protein.Though the laboratory population BJNK showed resistance to beta-cypermethrin,abamectin,indoxacarb,spinosadand chlorfenapyr,BJNK population is still susceptible to the other five insecticides including Cry1Ac protein.Our results showed that the two P.xylostella populations of different resistance backgrounds to several insecticides are still susceptible to Cry1Ac protein.No cross-resistance was observed between the resistance to chemical insecticides and that to Cry1Ac protein,because the resistance mechanisms to chemical insecticides are different from that to CrylAc protein.Therefore,Bt can be used for effectively control of field P.xylostella populations that have already exhibited resistance to a variety of chemical insecticides.
