Abstract

A study was conducted to analyze tree height , diameter at breast height(DBH), and volume of 25-year-old larch(lar-ix olgensis)progeny testing forests in Bohai Seed orchard , Ning'an City, Heilongjiang Province.Mutation analysis, variance analysis and multiple comparisons were used to select the three superior families at district 10 and district 11.Results show that there were abun-dant variations in the above three characters between and within families , and coefficients of variation for tree height , DBH, and vol-ume were 13.30%, 20.76%, and 47.66%.At district 10, the three families with large variations were 168, 151 and 132, with the mean variation coefficients of 28.09%; and the three families with small variations were 186, 102 and 103, with the mean varia-tion coefficients of 21.78%.The results of variance analysis showed that there were significantly or extremely significantly differences in tree height , DBH, and volume between families .The family heritability for height , DBH and volume were 60.1%, 57.4%, and 66.0%.Under the selection rate of 10%, the genetic gains of tree height , DBH and volume were 13.88%, 20.93%and 55.36%. Under the selection rate of 15%, three elite families, 121, 186 and 119, were screened out from 20 families according to the volume traits from district 10.Meanwhile, three elite families, 112, 101 and 180, were screened out from district 11.
