Scientific nature of traditional Chinese medicine in post-modern era: a commentary

Abstract
In post-modern era,it is essential to study the scientific nature of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in an ever-changing context.This paper analyzes the scientific and humanistic nature of TCM together with its unique image thinking ideology from the integration of science and humanities and interaction of image thinking and logical thinking.TCM theory is not based on mere materialism but on image thinking,which is of nonlinear uncertainty.It gives emphasis to the integration of entity and relation and change of energy and information.Research into the scientific and methodological questions about TCM in a complex systemic science should be aimed.The author holds that people-oriented medical value would guide the integration of science and humanity,holism and reductionism,image and logical thinking,systematic and descriptive studies,and evidence-based and narrative medicine,leading to the integration,harmonization and advancement of Western and Eastern medicine and generation of a new unified medicine.关键词
