Abstract

This study investigated the thermal tolerance of four common fish species (Sebastes schlegeli,Hexa-grammos otakii,Sebastiscus marmoratus, and Chaeturichthys stigmatias) in Shidao Bay using dynamic temperature and static temperature experimental methods. Critical thermal maximum (CTM) and 24 h upper incipient lethal temperature (24 h UILT50) were studied at four acclimatizing temperatures (5.0–26.0℃) and nine temperature-rising rates. The results showed that the CTM and the 24 h UILT50 of the four fish species significantly positively corre-lated with the acclimatizing temperatures. The effects of temperature-rising rate on the thermal tolerance of the ex-perimental fish varied among the acclimatizing temperatures, depending on the species. The four experimental fish showed the following ranking order of thermal tolerance:C. stigmatias >S. schlegeli >S. marmoratus >H. otakii.
