Experiment on selection of TBM cutter for construction of Qinling Tunnel for Hanjiang-to-Weihe River Valley Water Diversion Project

Abstract
Super-hard rock is encountered by the TBM for the excavation of Qinling Water Conveyance Tunnel for Hanjiang-to-Weihe River Valley Water Diversion Project,which makes the progress of the phase of the trial excavation seriously lag behind the index planned by the contract.In order to reduce the replacement time of cutter and promote the construction progress,the experiment on the cutter selection is taken as the breakthrough point.Through the trial excavations carried out by the TBM installed with the cutters from various manufacturers,two cutters from each manufacturer are crossly installed on the corresponding cutter-positions,and then the wearing test and rock compressive strength test are made during the experiment.In accordance with these two indexes,the cutter selection is quantitatively analyzed and the performances of all kinds of the cutter are comprehensively evaluated in combination with the wearing amounts and rates of the cutters in the transitional zone,the wearing status in the facecutter zone,the working life of the whole cutter,the ultimate wearing status and the cutter consumption during the trial excavation of 2 km.the result shows that under the impacts from the evenness of the heading face,the strength and quartz content of rock,larger differences of wearing amounts and deformations are there among the different positions,especially for those cutters made with different processing technologies,their wear resistances and stabilities dominate the excavating speed of TBM.The study result not only has a certain reference for selecting TBM cutter for the excavation of super-hard rock,but also provides the basic data for the research made on the cutter materials.关键词
