Thermal Environment and Air Quality of Summer in a Typical Barn of Lactating Cow in Beijing Area

Abstract
This study evaluated the thermal environment and air quality of typical barn of summer in Beijing.The thermal environment indicators and air quality were measured at different sampling times (08:00-09:00,10:00-1 1:00,12:00-13:00,14:00-15:00,16:00-17:00,18:00-19:00) and different positions of dairy barn in Beijing suburb.Results showed that,with the change of sampling time,the temperature increased first and then decreased,while the change of relative humidity was opposite.The temperature and humidity indexes (THI) in different sampling times was higher than the appropriate environment for lactating cows and thus the cows suffered from heat stress (THI>72).During 14:00-15:00 period,the wind speed was the highest.During 18:00-19:00 period,the concentration of PM 2.5,PM 10,ammonia and carbon dioxide were the highest.In addition,wind speed of sunny slope,ammonia concentration of shade-side and carbon dioxide concentration of feeding channel were greater than that in the other two positions.Compared with the inside of the barn,the outside of the barn had higher values of temperature,THI and ammonia concentration (P<0.01),and lower values of wind speed and carbon dioxide (P<0.01).It was concluded that dairy cows suffered from heat stress at the measuring time in the barn.However,the air movement in the barn alleviated heat stress of cows partly.The PM,ammonia and carbon dioxide concentrations conformed to the standard of production,which was better in sunny slope than shady slope and feeding channel.Temperature and THI inside the barn was lower than that of outside the barn,which indicated the barn played a role of insulation in summer.关键词
