Abstract

Cellulose nanofibers (CNF) prepared from 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidiine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) oxidized bagasse pulp had large aspect ratio with diameters of 4 ~ 10 nm.Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was mixed with CNF to prepare CNF/PVA composite film,and the effects of glycerol and polyethylene glycol-400 (PEG-400) on light transmittance and mechanical properties of CNF/PVA film were studied.The application of pure CNF or PVA film was limited by their unsatisfied mechanical properties.The results showed that CNF/PVA film had both high mechanical strength and extensibility.The film containing 25% CNF had high light transmittance (> 90%) in 400 ~ 700 nm,high Young's modulus of 4.72 GPa and elongation at break of 6.92%.The light transmittances of the composite film declined with the addition of either glycerol or PEG-400.The glycerol and PEG-400 made the film more flexible but less stiff.
