Topology Connecting Strategy of the Modular Multilevel Matrix Converter for Optimal Switching Times

Abstract
Modular multilevel matrix converter (MMMC) can convert three-phase AC system to another three-phase AC system. MMMC has the advantages of modularization and good low frequency characteristics, which can be used for high voltage and large capacity drive systems. MMMC mainly includes the topology without branch inductors and the topology with branch inductors. The topology without branch inductors can reduce the volume and weight of the system, however it has a complex modulation with varied topology connecting methods. This paper studies on the MMMC without branch inductors, builds a switching mathematical model of the topology, and proposes the connecting strategy of the optimal switching times based on space vector pulse width modulation. The proposed strategy ensures the optimum of the switching times, and simplifies the modulation. Simulation and experimental results verify the effects of the connecting strategy.关键词
