Abstract

The technology of artificially shortening photoperiod to increase cashmere yield is an efficient,environmental friendly,and low-cost technique.However,the extension and application is not yet perfect,because its effect of increasing cashmere yield is significantly different in different breeds of Cashmere goats.The molecular mechanism of the technique remains not clear.This study aimed to investigate the effect of short photoperiod on the hormone and cashmere growth for Cashmere goat.A total of 50 female Arbas Cashmere goats at the age of three to four were randomly selected and divided into two groups.The melatonin,prolactin and cashmere quality of different time point were measured.The result showed:(1) the melatonin level of the test group was slightly increased,while the control group decreased sharply.The prolactin level is lower significantly under the test group than control group in September.(2) Melatonin and prolactin showed significant cyclical changes.(3) The cashmere and wool yield of test group was 54% higher than the control group.The results revealed that shortened photoperiod prolongs hair follicle growth phase by regulating the melatonin and prolactin in blood,and increases cashmere yield significantly.The test provides a theoretical reference for the popularization of photoperiod on cashmere growth.
