Abstract

Demisting efficiency of baffle plate demister for small droplets was low. To solve this problem, a new kind of demister, i.e. vortex, demister was proposed. The flow field of vortex demister was complicated because of vortexes, which will increase the removal efficiency of small droplets. Vortex demister and baffle plate demister were studied by numerical simulation. And some experiments were done to show the validity of the simulation. The results show that the demisting efficiency of vortex demister is 10.8%-29.8% higher than that of baffle plate demister when the gas flow rate is between 3 and 7 m/s. The removal efficiency of 20 μm droplet of vortex demister is higher than 90% when the gas flow rate is between 3 and 7 m/s. And the removal efficiency of vortex demister is higher than that of baffle plate demister when droplets were small. For example, the removal efficiency of vortex demister is 17.8%-18.2% higher than that of baffle plate demister when the diameter of droplets is 10 μm. And the pressure drop of vortex demister is higher than that of baffle demister. When the gas flow rate is 3 m/s, the difference is 193 Pa, and the difference will increase with gas flow velocity increasing.
