Communication Competency of Registered Nurses and Its Influencing Factors:A Multicenter Investigation

Abstract
Objective To investigate registered nurses' competency of nurse-patient communication and analyze the influencing factors.Methods The study was carried out in 7 ClassⅢGradeⅠhospitals from 4 provinces with stratified sampling method and 2,068 registered nurses were recruited.Data were collected by using Nurses'Clinic Communication Competency Scale and Competency Inventory for Registered Nurse (CIRN). Results The average score of nurses' clinic communication competency was 80.83±11.91 and that of core competency 159.24±29.84. The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that nurses' core competency, educational background and frequency of training had influence on scores of nurses' clinic communication competency (P<0.01). Conclusion Registered nurses in the study present good clinic communication competency. Nurses' core competence, education background and frequency of training are closely related to communication competency.Hospitals and care managers can improve the nurse's communication skills by improving nurses' core competencies and by training nurses with the right qualifications based on their qualifications.关键词
