Abstract

Coal ash is a byproduct of coal gasification processes, which shows great reusing potential in construction, adsorption, extraction of alumina and other areas. The flow characteristics of fine ash have a significant effect on reusing processes. However, ashes produced by different gasification technologies have different physical properties. Therefore, research on flow characteristics of fine ash is useful. In this work, fine ashes obtained from coal-water slurry gasification and different pulverized coal gasification were selected as experimental materials. The flow properties of fine ashes produced by different gasification processes were compared in terms of cohesion, difference of internal friction angle between steady-state (φst) and initial flow (φi) and specific energy (SE). In addition, effects of fine particle mean size and fine particle content on the flow properties were obtained. The results show that compared to the fine ash from coal-water slurry gasification, the cohesion of pulverized coal gasification fine ash is stronger with worse flowability. The fine ash from pulverized coal gasification experienced quench process has weaker flowability than that experienced waste heat boiler process.
