Simulation of hypervelocity impact characteristics of gradient corrugated-core sandwich plates

Abstract
In view of the demand of the protection of the spacecraft against the orbital debris, a gradient corrugated-core sandwich bumper shield under hypervelocity impact is numerically studied. It can be seen that the propagation of the shock wave in the gradient corrugated-core sandwich bumper shield is more complicated than that in the Whipple shield, and that is more conducive for the crush of the orbital debris. With the increase of the impact velocity from 5 to 20 km/s, the expansion angle of the debris cloud increases firstly and then decreases. Furthermore, it is shown that the front corrugated-core absorbs most impact energy of the debris. The research can help the design of the orbital debris shield.关键词
