Abstract

Flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) device can effectively control the power system parameters and network structure for reducing power loss and improving system stability. Due to the higher cost of FACTS devices, it has great significance to establish a multi-objective optimization model which takes into account its configuration cost and system performance. A multi-objective optimization model of minimize the real power losses, voltage stability index, compensation cost was established to identify the optimal location and size of thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) and static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) in this paper. An improved differential and harmony search algorithm was proposed to solve the nonlinear multi-objective optimization problem. The results show that a better solution set can be obtained by using the improved multi-objective harmony search algorithm. And the optimal compromise solution has better voltage stability and lower active power loss at lower compensation cost. The proposed multi-objective optimization model and improved algorithm can effectively direct the optimal allocation of FACTS equipment in practical power system, which has a good application prospect.
