Abstract

Series of on-spot statistical functions involving two types of typhoon field parameters used in typhoon engineering model,such as radius to maximum wind speed Rmax and radial pressure distribution coefficientβ,were listed and compared.Taking the strong typhoon Hagupit 0814 as an example,with the help of observation data of moving tracks and central pressures at different moments,the comparison of variation characteristics of Rmax andβ was conducted by different calculation methods during the development,intensification and dissipation periods.The difference of typhoon field characteristics reflected by the statistical relationships of field parameters in different regions were summarized.The observed wind speeds of typhoon Hagupit,whose center passed through two measurement stations,were collected.On the basis of the analytical engineering typhoon model with optimized field parameters based on the measured data,the evolution process of wind speed along with time for typhoon Hagupit was reproduced with different combinations of parameters Rmax andβ,and compared comprehensively with the field observation data.Finally,the optimized calculation methods for Rmax andβ which are applicable for simulating typhoon field in South Coastal region of China were proposed.
