Abstract

Rosasite, (Cu,Zn)2CO3(OH)2, the highly effective precursor phase of Cu/ZnO catalyst for methanol synthesis from syngas,can be prepared by isomorphous substitution.During preparation process,high surface supports AC,Al2O3,SBA-15, MCM-41 and SiO2have been used to modify the performance of catalysts for methanol synthesis from syngas. The XRD, AAS, BET, H2-TPR and TEM characterizations have been employed to explore the effect of supports on the structure and performance of catalysts. The experimental results indicate that although the Zn/(Cu+Zn) mass ratio in supported catalysts is similar to that in the unsupported CuO-ZnO catalyst,the active sites of Cu-Zn interaction in supported catalysts decrease due to some Zn(NO3)2being impregnated in the pores of the supports which couldn't form (Cu,Zn)2CO3(OH)2, resulting in lower catalytic activity than that of unsupported CuO-ZnO catalyst. The CuO-ZnO/SBA-15 has the largest amount of Cu substituted by Zn, the smallest Cu particle size of 12.8 nm and good dispersibility. The space-time yield of methanol could reach 176.2g/(kgcu·h) for CuO-ZnO/SBA-15, but it is still lower than 256.0g/(kgcu·h)for CuO-ZnO.
