Association between blood vitamin D level and carotid atherosclerosis:a Meta-analysis

Abstract
Objective To analyze the association between blood vitamin D level and carotid atherosclerosis by Meta analysis. Methods Chinese and English literature prior to April 2016 on the association between blood vitamin D level and carotid atherosclerosis were searched and collected. Stata 12.0 was used for data analysis. Cochrane's Q and I2 statistics were used to evaluate heterogeneity, subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were used to explore the sources of heterogeneity. Publication bias was calculated by funnel plot, Begg rank correlation test. Results A total of 3 articles were considered and totally 730 cases were enrolled in this study, including 267 cases in control group and 463 cases in carotid atherosclerosis group. The standardized mean difference and 95％ confidence interval SMD (95％ CI) of blood vitamin D level in the carotid atherosclerosis group were - 1.94 ( - 2.15 ～- 1.74), suggesting blood vitamin D level in the carotid atherosclerosis group was lower than that in the control group, with statistically significant difference (Z = 18.24, P = 0.000). Conclusion The blood vitamin D level in the carotid atherosclerosis group was lower than that in the control group, which suggested that blood vitamin D level was associated with carotid atherosclerosis.关键词
