Research progress on key technologies in mode division multiplexing system

摘要

Abstract

Current optical fiber communication is mostly used in single-mode system.The wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology is utilized to enhance the transmission capacity.With the transmission capacity of optical fiber approaching to Shannon limit,the space division multiplexing (SDM) has received increasing attention in improving the capacity.Mode division multiplexing (MDM) technology can increase the capacity of optical communication system by using the spatial degrees of freedom.The multiplexing technology can overcome the limitation of the transmission capacity of single-mode optical fiber communication system.The research progress on the key technologies in the mode division multiplexing system is commented on three aspects:mode division (de)multiplexer,few/multi-mode fiber and MIMO digital signal processing.
