Experimental Research on Hysteretic Performance of a New Mentioned Steel Beam-Column Connection Based on Accordion Effect

Abstract
A new type of reduced beam section (RBS) beam-to-column connection called accordion Web RBS (AW-RBS) is introduced in this paper, in which the flat web of conventional I-beam is replaced with corrugated web near the column in order to weaken bending resistance of the beam. The main purpose of this design is to transfer the plastic hinge as well as failure location from fragile joint welds to corrugated web zone with good ductili-ty. An additional advantage of preventing beam flange from local buckling can also be expected after yield. Quasi-static tests are carried out to investigate the aseismic behavior of the local corrugated web connection. Shown by the results,failure of the AW-RBS connection developed at the corrugated zone of the beam with no sign of joints weld fracture,and beam flanges experienced no local buckling after field due to supporting function of the corrugated web. In addition,based on comparison of quasi-static test results between the connections with corrugated web and those with traditional flat web,it can be concluded that there is no obvious strength decline after plastic hinge de-veloping on the beam of AW-RBS connection,and its plump hysteretic curve shows excellent aseismic performance. In conclusion,the proposed connection has the ability of moving plastic hinge away from joint,protecting joint weld and achieving good energy dissipation capacity,which can be used in the strong earthquake area.关键词
