Abstract

Wide-area damping control is important to suppress low frequency oscillation of large-scale power grid, for the deficiency of existing research on wide-area damping control system is mostly based on simple power systems and the design of the controller parameters mostly based on single operation mode,is difficult to application in the large-scale power grids and multi-operation mode. A wide-area damping controller design method which is suitable for large-scale power grid was presented in this paper.First, the frequency domain design method of wide-area damping controller based on the frequency domain subspace identification was presented. The method don't require the actual system modeling, completing damping controller parameter design based on measure, is suitable for project realize. Then, the coordination design method of the wide-area damping controller multi-operation mode based on genetic algorithm was presented.The method ensures controller robustness of multi- operation mode used multi-objective optimization coordination function of genetic algorithms,and the algorithm implementation process does not depend on detailed model of the system, so the method is suitable for practical large-scale grid. Finally,the design process of wide-area power grid was presented. The effectiveness of the method and the feasibility of the application in the practical grid are demonstrated by the oscillation examples of the practical grid.The practical case study results show that after using the wide-area damping controller designed by this method, the damping characteristics is significantly improved, the method also is suitable for multi-mode operation, and does not depend on detailed model of the system, can be applied to design the wide-area controller of large-scale interconnected power system.
