Abstract

Large-scale wind power fluctuations have caused greater frequency deviation in power systems. Thus, higher frequency response capability is required. In this paper, the frequency characteristics of wind power are studied based on measured data and the influence of wind power fluctuations on frequency regulation are analyzed. In the time scale of primary frequency regulation, the coupling relationship between the droop and the stability of the primary frequency control system is analyzed. Based on the principle of frequency division, a dynamic primary frequency regulation strategy is presented. The droop coefficients of thermal units are set dynamically according to different frequency bands. The frequency regulation ability in low frequency bands is particularly improved. Case study in time domain of a two-area power system is analyzed and advantages of the strategy are verified.
