Development, Research Frontiers and Focuses of General Practice
摘要
Abstract
Objective To investigate the international development, research frontiers and focuses of general practice discipline, and offer suggestions for its development in China. Methods We searched Web of Science Core Collection for articles about general practice published between 1945 and 2015 using "General Practice" or "Family Practice" as the term. Totaled 30 102 articles were eligible. Concurrence analysis was performed using Gephi software to dissect the key words frequently used in the articles published from 1991 to 2015 for exploring the international development of general practice discipline. Web-based co-citation analysis of the articles published between 2001 and 2015 was conducted using CiteSpace software to investigate the international frontiers and development trend of general practice discipline. Results The development of general practice as an academic discipline is divided into three stages: forming stage (by the end of 1960s), developmental stage (from the 1970s to the 1980s) and mature stage (in the 1990s and afterwards). General practice discipline owns 6 research focuses, including primary health care, general medical management of common health problems, doctor-patient relationship, medical education, models of care delivery in general practice, health assessment and management. Furthermore, its international frontiers and trend includes achievement of web-based management of primary care delivery and general practice data mining and utilization. The development of general practice discipline is characterized by a gradual transition from quantitative study to give priority to qualitative combined with quantitative study, and a transition from studies mainly featuring application of clinical guidelines in the early stage to later chiefly evidence-based studies. Conclusion We put forward some suggestions for domestic development of general practice discipline: defining the value of general practice discipline, optimizing the education methods of general practice, strengthening the clinical practice, developing general practice discipline using information technology, understanding the research trend based on the review of international development of this discipline.关键词
