Abstract

Fluorhydroxyapatite (FHA, Ca10(PO4)6OH2-xFx(x=0-2)) powder was synthesized by a precipitation method. The FHA coating was prepared on the surface of the titanium alloy (i.e., Ti6Al4V)via electrophoretic deposition. The coatings with different deposition contents were obtained by changing the deposition voltage, time and electrode spacing. The influences of deposition voltage, time, electrode spacing and thermal treatment on the surface morphology, phase composition and bonding strength of coating were investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The FHA coatings can be obtained under the optimized deposition process and thermal treatment (i.e., voltage of 15V, deposition time of 1 min and electrode spacing of 1 cm). The FHA bioceramic coating with a good quality and a high bonding strength can be prepared after thermal treatment in N2 gas at 900℃ for 1h.
