Abstract

The two-stage topology, cascaded H-bridge (CHB) rectifier with isolated bidirectional DC/DC converter (IBDC), is widely used in power electronic transformer (PET).Serving as the energy buffer, the dc-link capacitors will engage serious power unbalance when the dynamic behaviors of CHB and IBDC are quite different. This power unbalance will cause the consequence of dc-link voltage fluctuations, and system stability degradation. To solve this problem, a coordinative control strategy was proposed, which assigns the responsibilities of dc-link voltage control and output voltage control to the CHB and IBDC stages coordinately. By analyzing the DC-link voltage fluctuation response under load interference in the view of frequency -response method, as well as stability analysis, the superiority of the proposed coordinative control over the conventional independent one has been demonstrated. In addition, to guarantee dc-link voltage balance among sub-modules, the balancing controller was designed in the IBDC stage. Then by combining the balancing control with the coordinative control, a compact overall control strategy of PET was obtained. The correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method have been validated by both simulations and experiments.
