Analysis on Inrush Current of Electric Locomotive Transformer and Its Effects

Abstract
To study the mechanism of inrush current from an electric locomotive transformer used in electrified railway and its effects,an equivalent circuit of traction power supply system is established when the locomotive transformer is closing.The mathematical models of the flux of the transformer and the primary and secondary side voltages are formu-lated.A simulation model is built to analyze the changes of inrush current generated by the locomotive transformer un-der different conditions,as well as its effect on the primary and secondary side voltages of the transformer.Simulation results show that the locomotive transformer can experience an inrush current which is larger than the rated current am-plitude when the transformer is closing in the traction network,and an over-high inrush current can cause voltage loss and a serious distortion on the primary and secondary side voltages of the transformer;the system parameters,such as traction network voltage,locomotive position,transformer capacity and transformer remanence,can influence the in-rush current and its effects on the voltage distortion.The research in this paper provides reference for the abnormal trip-ping phenomenon in the traction power supply system.关键词
