Design and Optimization of VIENNA Rectifier

Abstract
As an essential electrical section in many power electronics devices, three-phase AC/DC rectifier has been widely applied. Compared with the traditional diode rectifier and phase controlled rectifier, a VIENNA rectifier features low total harmonic distortion(THD)and high power factor.Meanwhile,its system power density is much higher than that of the traditional bridge pulse width modulation(PWM)rectifier because of its fewer power switches. Based on a brief introduction of the principle of VIENNA rectifier and with the combination of a 3 kW VIENNA system, the corresponding engineering design is carried out in this paper, including the design of energy storage elements, filter section and system control loop. In addition, to solve the input current harmonics problem caused by the distortion of grid voltage, an optimizing method for the harmonic currents of selective orders is applied with the combination of the control loop of VIENNA rectifier;moreover,the resonance problem due to LCL filter is optimized from the perspective of engineering design.The experimental result of a 3 kW VIENNA prototype further verified the effectiveness of the design method and the corresponding optimization method.关键词
