Application progress on cone beam computed tomography imaging localization in extraction of embedded supernumerary teeth in children

Abstract
The presence of supernumerary teeth in children affect the eruption of normal permanent teeth, resulting in malocclusion, and accompanied by destructive lesions such as cysts, which require early removal. Accurate localization of embedded supernumerary teeth during removal is critical. Under the guidance of accurate positioning, the surgical procedure can be correctly formulated and the appropriate surgical approach could be chosen to reduce the trauma of alveolar surgery. Over the past ten years, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has been the most advanced and accurate imaging technique in oral and alveolar surgery. At present, CBCT is an ideal technique for determining the location of impacted teeth. The three-dimensional images can be used to observe the relationship between the impacted teeth and their adjacent teeth in different axial directions. It can determine the distance between the bony plates of the labial and palatal sides of the impacted teeth. CBCT is more and more widely used in oral diagnosis and treatment, and has its unique advantages. This paper reviews the clinical application of CBCT in the localization of supernumerary teeth in children.关键词
