Abstract
Objective The purpose of this paper is to analyze the behavioral characteristics of major drug abuse among addicts in three northern Chinese provinces (Gansu,Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region) and provide basic data and policy recommendations for the prevention and treatment of drug abuse in those areas.Methods In this paper,a self-designed questionnaire was used to carry out an epidemiological investigation on 5,677 drug addicts selected from compulsory isolated detoxification centers in the above-mentioned provinces.Results The top three drugs abused were heroin,methamphetamine and yellowing agent,which were relatively easy to obtain,mainly from friends,the black market and through telephone information.The extent of euphoria after abusing those drugs reached an intensity of "medium to high" and the main reasons for abuse were curiosity and environmental influence.In terms of funding sources,money was mostly from work or business income,or from their families.Conclusion In view of the charac teristics of drug abuse among addicts in the three northern provinces,relevant departments should continue to intensify their crackdown on drug crimes and step up publicity and education for the populace,so as to minimize the social harm caused by drug addiction.关键词
