Role of paired box gene 8 protein in differential diagnosis of cervical glandular epithelial lesions

Abstract
Objective To explore the role of paired box gene 8(PAX-8) protein in the differential diagnosis of cervical glandular epithelial lesions.Methods The biopsy or surgical specimens of 25 cases of benign endocervical glandular epithelium(BEG),14 cases of cervical adenocarcinoma in situ(AIS),19 cases of invasive endocervical adenocarcinoma(ECA) and 20 cases of uterine endometrioid carcinoma(UEC) were collected.Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the PAX-8 protein expression in each tissues.Results Diffuse and strongly positive expression of PAX-8 protein was observed in the nucleus of BEG tissues,patchy/local and weekly positive expression of PAX-8 protein was observed in the nucleus of AIS and invasive ECA tissues.The positive expression rates of PAX-8 protein in BEG,AIS and invasive ECA tissues were 100%(25/25),92.8%(13/14) and 73.7%(14/19) respectively.the positive expression rate of PAX-8 protein in BEG tissues was higher than that in invasive ECA tissues,and no significant difference was found in the positive rate of PAX-8 protein between BEG and AIS tissues, or between AIS and invasive ECA tissues(all P>0.05).The positive expression rate of PAX-8 protein in UEC tissues was 100.0%(20/20),and was higher than that in invasive ECA tissues(P<0.05).Conclusion PAX-8 obtains a certain effect on the differential diagnosis between benign and malignant cervical glandular epithelial lesions,and also between invasive ECA and UEC.关键词
