Abstract
A repetitive upsetting-extrusion (RUE)process was carried out on the Mg-12.5Gd-4Y-2Zn-0.5Zr alloy up to 5 passes (i.e.,accumulative strains of 6.75)with decreasing temperature pass-by-pass from 480 ℃ to 390 ℃.The microstructure evolution of the alloys during RUE was investigated by using OM、SEM and XRD.The results show that the RUE process is effective in refining the grains of Mg-12.5Gd-4Y-2Zn-0.5Zr alloy.The grain refinement is mainly occurred at early passes,and the refinement efficiency is gradually weakened with further increasing passes.After 5 RUE passes,the average grain size is decreased from 64.2 μm to 4.4 μm,and a uniform fully recrystallized structure is achieved.In ad-dition,with increasing number of RUE passes,the lamellar LPSO structures inside the original grains gradually dissolve and numerous tiny particleβ-Mg5(Gd,Y,Zn)phases are dynamically precipitated a-long dynamically recrystallized grain boundaries.Meanwhile,the block-shaped LPSO phases discontinu-ously distributing along initial grain boundaries as network structure are kinked severely,and gradually fragmented into smaller ones uniformly distributed along extrusion direction.关键词
