摘要

Abstract

Quaternary sediments from the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River are studied in order to investigate the evolution of the Yangtze Three Gorges.On the basis of discussion on the sedimentary environment of Quaternary sediments in Sichuan Basin and the Jianghan Basin,combined with the research of the type,content and combination characteristics of heavy minerals in Quaternary sediments,it is found that the characteristics of heavy minerals in the lower planation surface of the Three Gorges are similar to those in the sediments of Yunchi Formation and Shanxiyao Formation,and are different from those in sediments of the Yangtze River terraces.A conclusion can be drawn that there were 2 drainage systems separated by Huangling Dome before the cutting through of the Yangtze Three Gorges,and the Huangling Dome divided the ancient-Yangtze River into two rivers flowing eastward and westward respectively.Therefore,the cutting through of Three Gorges of Yangtze River occurred later than the formation time of the lower planation surface,and also later than the formation time of Yunchi Formation and Shanxiyao Formation.
