Abstract

In order to study the influence of embedded steel skeleton form on the impact performance of concrete bridge piers,three kinds of concrete bridge piers with different embedded steel skeleton forms,i.e.,angle steel,steel channel,and steel pipe,were tested under horizontal impact force.The time-history curves of impact force,displacement and strain of steel and concrete,were obtained.The mechanical properties of bridge piers with different embedded steel skeleton forms at different impact stages were compared and analyzed.The influence of steel skeleton forms on the impact performance of concrete piers was calculated by means of mechanical analysis method.The experimental results show that the steel skeleton form has a certain influence on the impact performance of piers.Under the same impact energy,the lateral deformation of concrete piers embedded with steel pipe is smaller than that embedded with steel channel or angle steel.The embedment of steel channel and steel pipe can greatly inhibit the development of compressive strain in concrete at pier bottom.The concrete pier embedded with steel pipe has more failure diagonal cracks,better ductility and higher anti-impact capacity.The principal compressive stress and strain of concrete of diagonal crack zone at pier bottom are calculated and analyzed.The calculation and analysis results show that different steel skeleton forms change the geometrical parameters of the pier section,hence affecting the principal compressive stress of the concrete pier.The principal compressive stress of the concrete pier embedded with steel pipe is reduced by 24.54% compared to that embedded with angle steel under the same steel ratio.The strain amplification factor of concrete pier embedded with steel pipe is smaller than that embedded with angle steel.The experiments and calculation analyses prove that the concrete bridge pier embedded with steel pipe has better impact performance.
