摘要

Abstract

To satisfy the need for rock sampling devices in extremely harsh deep-space exploration environments,in this paper,we propose an ultrasonic driller, based on the principle of piezoelectric driving, which could be in-stalled on the robotic arm of a rover to act as an end effector.In this driller,the ultrasonic transducer directly im-pacts the drilling tool,driving the drill tool to work at a high frequency to break rock.We designed the piezoelec-tric actuation unit in detail and analyzed the impact between the ultrasonic horn and drill rod.In the experiments, we investigated the drilling performance of the ultrasonic driller in sandrock and the effect of the drilling pressure and the length of drilling tool on the drilling performance.The results indicate that the proposed ultrasonic driller has a high drilling efficiency in sandstone and that the necessary drilling pressure is low,which makes it useful for rock sampling of extraterrestrial celestial bodies with a weak gravitational field,such as comets and minor planets.
