Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the variation of environmental parameters in the enclosed broiler breeder house in summer and winter,so as to provide a data basis for regulating environmental parameters for broiler breeding hens in different seasons.The study was conducted in an enclosed broiler breeder house in Changzhou City,Jiangsu Province.Seven monitored points were designed involving five horizontal positions and three vertical positions (forepart,middle,back,upper-part,lower-part,south,and north).The parameters of temperature,relative humidity,wind speed,illumination,particulate matter (PM) concentrations,ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2)concentrations were monitored and detected from 5:00 to 21:00 in every two hours for seven consecutive days in summer (July 2017) and winter (December 2016),respectively.The results showed that the values of temperature,relative humidity,wind speed and illumination in summer were significantly higher than those in winter (P<0.01),while the PM,NH3 and CO2concentrations in summer were markedly higher compared with those in winter (P<0.01).Human behaviors (like feeding) and chicken activities caused an increase in concentrations of different size PM which would decrease after the lights were turned off in the chicken house.The wind speed was significantly negatively correlated with NH3and CO2concentrations both in winter and summer.The laying rate in the monitored chicken house was observably higher in summer than that in winter (P<0.01),but there was no significant difference in hatchability.In conclusion,the air quality in the experimental chicken house was better in summer than that in winter.Chicken activities might induce increase in PM concentrations.The NH3and CO2concentrations were considerably affected by wind speed in the boiler breeder house.The laying rate of hens in the enclosed chicken house was higher in summer than that in winter.
