Research and Application of Biomedical Nickel-Free Stainless Steels as Bone-Implant Materials

Abstract
Nowadays, traditional stainless steels are widely used as bone-implant materials, but there are still fracture problems caused by limited mechanical properties, aseptic loosening problems caused by limited corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. In recent years, many institutions including Institute of Metal Research and Chinese Academy of Sciences, have made significant processes on research and application of these new biomedical stainless steels. Their excellent combinations of properties were meaningful for improving the safety of bone implantations. In this paper, the latest research progresses on nickel-free stainless steels as bone-implant materials and clinical application of relevant products were reviewed, their future tendencies in bone repair field were also proposed.关键词
