Abstract

To understand the adaptability and adaptation mechanism of the Miscanthus lutarioriparius under flooding and cutting stress, we investigated the effects of different water levels (0, 15, 30 cm) and cutting treatment on the growth and physiology of Miscanthus lutarioriparius from Dongting Lake wetland. In comparison with non-water condition, under 15 cm water level, the leaf, stem, underground and total biomass of Miscanthus lutarioriparius with no cutting treatment were significantly reduced (P<0.05), and the leaf and total biomass of Miscanthus lutarioriparius with cutting treatment were also significantly reduced (P<0.05); while those under the 30 cm water level,the leaf, stem, underground and total biomass, plant height and POD were all significantly decreased (P<0.05). Under flooding stress, in comparison with no cutting treatment, the underground biomass of Miscanthus lutarioriparius with cutting treatment increased significantly (P<0.05). Further comprehensive analysis showed that 15 cm flooding had little effect on the growth of Miscanthus lutarioriparius in contrast; 30 cm flooding significantly inhibited the growth and development of Miscanthus lutarioriparius and the treatment of cutting promoted the growth.
