Seroprevalence Estimation on Swine Pseudorabies in Fixed-point Monitoring Pig Farms in Anhui Province from 2015 to 2017

Abstract

In order to recognize the prevalence status of Pseudorabies(PR)in pigs at the national fixed monitoring sites in Anhui Province,an estimation on prevalence rate of PR at the individual level was conducted towards pigs in 12 fixed-pointed monitoring farms using stratified random sampling method during 2015 to 2017,then the collected serum samples were tested by PRV gE-ELISA kits. Result showed that the true individual seroprevalance of PRV in these monitoring sites decreased from 33.6%(95%CI:27.8% to 39.5%)in 2015 to 1.1%(95%CI:0 to 4.0%)in 2016,and there was a slight rebound in 2017withthe prevalence rateof 6.9%(95%CI:3.0% to 10.7%). Among the 12 monitoring sites,8 of them were found to be infected with PRV,and the highest individual apparent prevalence rate was 77.0%(95%CI:62.9% to 91.2%). In terms of the infected farms,the individual positive rate in breeding herds was higher than that in other herds. In 2015,swine farms with a population over 1000 pigs had a higher positive rate, and the risk of PRV infection was 2.0 times than the farms with less than 1000 pigs(95%CI:1.0 to 3.8). But it was opposite in 2017,the infection risk in the farms with over 1000 pigs was only 20 percent of the risk in the others farms (95%CI:0.1 to 0.5). In conclusion,the PRV infection in the fixed-point monitoring pig herds in Anhui Province was still relatively serious,but the epidemic situation showed a downward trend. At last,the key points of PRV prevention and control should be focused on the breeding and small-scale pig herds.
