Abstract

The double closed loop proportional-integral (PI) control with feedforward decoupling is usually used in traditional three-phase voltage-source pulse width modulation (PWM) rectifier. Its digital control is relatively simple and easy to regulate. However, the given value of direct current (DC) bus voltage is a step-function signal during the start-up process from uncontrolled rectifying to PWM rectifying, causing rapidly increase of bus voltage and generating inrush current. As a result, the switching devices withstand large current stress, which affects the security and reliability of system. Therefore, this paper first analyzes the generation mechanism of inrush current based on the mathematical model of PWM rectifier system. A slow given method that can fundamentally suppress the inrush current is then proposed. Finally, the simulation and experimental results verify the proposed method.
