Effects of Fumaric Acid on Growth Performance, Jejunum Development and Serum Antioxidant and Immunity Indicators of Young Rabbits in Summer

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of fumaric acid on growth performance,jejunum development and serum antioxidant and immunity indicators of young rabbits in summer.Ninety 56-day-old Rex rabbits with similar body weight [(919.00±8.92) g] were randomly assigned to 3 groups with 10 replicates per group and 3 rabbits per replicate.Rabbits in the control group were fed a basal diet,rabbits in the fumaric acid group were fed the basal diet supplemented with 0.05% fumaric acid,and the others in the compound acidifier group were fed the basal diet supplemented with 0.10% compound acidifier.The pre-experimental period lasted for 7 days,and the experimental period lasted for 35 days.The results showed as follows:1) compared with the control group,dietary fumaric acid increased the final body weight and average daily gain and decreased the mortality (P>0.05),and the final body weight and average daily gain were increased by 6.05% and 13.40%,respectively.2) Compared with the control group,dietary fumaric acid significantly increased the crude protein apparent digestibility (P<0.05),significantly decreased the phosphorus apparent digestibility (P<0.05),and the crude fiber apparent digestibility had a increased tendency (P>0.05).3) Compared with the control group,dietary fumaric acid increased the intestinal wall thickness,villous height and ratio of villous height to crypt depth of jejunum and decreased the crypt depth (P>0.05),and the intestinal wall thickness,villous height and ratio of villous height to crypt depth of jejunum were increased by 20.70%,9.83% and 18.60%,respectively (P>0.05).4) Compared with the control group,dietary fumaric acid increased the serum total antioxidant capacity and superoxide dismutase activity (P>0.05),decreased the serum malondialdehyde content (P>0.05),and had the tendency to improve serum lysozyme activity (P>0.05),but had no significant effects on other serum indicators (P>0.05).In conclusion,in summer,dietary fumaric acid can improve jejunum development of young rabbits,enhance the intestinal absorption ability,and increase the utilization of protein,thus further improve the growth performance,and also can improve the body antioxidant ability,promote the body health.关键词
